Mr. Matthes
Grade level and subject: 7th grade (film appreciation and scriptwriting) and 8th grade (English)
Educational Background: University of California Davis, Fresno State, Art Center
Philosophy of Education:
It is my belief that all students have an equal and inalienable right to a standards based education in an equitable, rigorous, and engaging environment that reinforces creativity, hard work, kindness, integrity, and support for individual student needs.
Why are you in the educational field?
My mother has been a teacher all of my life. For as long as I can remember, I have been inspired by her commitment to helping others, the amount of patience, compassion, and selflessness she demonstrates on a consistent basis, and her self-evident interest in continuing to learn. Much of my reasons for becoming a teacher are thanks to the example that she sets and my will to live up to this example; a will to make use of the privilege that her influence has made on my life, and to make her proud of me.
What will students be doing in your classroom?
Students in my classroom can expect an environment based on procedures of collaboration, participation, and respect for their peers, faculty, and staff. Students will take part in a curriculum that focuses on active participation in an eclectic variation of reading, speaking, listening and writing tasks designed to enhance and implement the relevant adopted texts. Students can expect a high level of technologically integrated activities that challenge their development of computer literacy parallel to their development of the literacy standards of their current grade.
How can parents contact you?
